The United States achieves a circular and equitable economy.
WHO IS SAF?
The Stewardship Action Foundation (SAF) is a network of committed proponents comprised of governments, non-government organizations, businesses, and consumers that educate and promote the concept that producers fairly share responsibility for their products and packaging in a circular economy.
SAF supports the advancement of the Circular Economy in the United States which includes three primary activities: 1) reducing waste and pollution; 2) keeping materials in motion, and 3) regenerating natural systems. SAF does the education and outreach work to support and align with NSAC's policy efforts. SAF aligns the public and private sectors through information and partnerships to implement and ensure sustainable recovery systems where producers have an appropriate level of sharing in the responsibility for those systems.
BIRTH OF SAF
SAF was founded in 2021 and is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that will engage primarily in education efforts to support a Circular Economy. Current projects include a focus on “truth in labeling” because the public cannot make informed purchasing decisions when products are mislabeled and cause them to buy products they might not purchase otherwise believing that they are more environmentally friendly. NSAC was successful at passing Truth in Labeling legislation AB 818 in California in 2021 to ensure wipes that were not flushable have labels that say, “DO NOT FLUSH”. NSAC was also successful in passing SB 343 in 2021 in California which defined what is “recyclable”. SAF will be working hard in 2022 to promote these new definitions and requirements and will be holding webinars and workshops for producers, retailers, governments, and advocates addressing the many issues around truth in labeling of products regarding toxicity, recyclability, recycled content, flushability, and more.
